Have you heard the news? We could be facing a whipped cream shortage this holiday season! Due to an unfortunate accident this past August at a chemical plant in Florida, there is an industry wide supply issue of nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide gas keeps canned whipped creams light and fluffy, and due to the accident there is now a shortage of some whipped toppings. Don't fret though, I've got the perfectly simple recipe for making your own whipped cream at home!

Homemade whipped cream is incredibly easy to make. You only need three ingredients - heavy whipping cream, sugar, and vanilla extract - to make the lightest, creamiest, most delicious whipped cream you will ever taste. Perfect for your pies, cakes, brownies, and tarts, once you make it yourself you'll never buy it from the store again.

All you need to do is pour your ingredients into a bowl and get to mixing! I love to use my muscles and whip everything together by hand, but you can also use a hand mixer to get it done a bit quicker. Whichever way you decide to do it, in less than 5 minutes you'll have the perfect whipped cream for your holiday desserts.

Ingredients:
1 cup heavy whipping cream
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Pour the ingredients into a large bowl and whisk vigorously using a large whisk. Whisk for approximately 4 – 5 minutes, until soft peaks form. As you whisk, the mixture will start to thicken, but you need to keep on going! When you pull the whisk out of the bowl and invert it, the peak at the top will fall gently to the side. If you don't get that peak, whisk for a little longer. Serve immediately, or store in the refrigerator for a few hours.
