I've been talking a lot about my goals for 2016 lately, and being healthier overall is at the top of that list. Like many of you, I'm busy with work, kids, laundry, cleaning house, etc., and I don't often take care of myself like I should. This is the year where I will focus on myself more and make my health a priority, too!

There are a few things I've jotted down in my journal that I am concentrating on so far. Small, simple things that I feel will make a big impact on my goals. I decided if I started with small changes, things I know I can achieve, then I would get the boost I'm needing. And by sharing the 5 simple steps with you, I will definitely feel more accountable!
1. Drink more water - this seems like a simple goal, right? Some days it's harder than you think! Water is so important to our bodies. It helps keep us fuller, so we don't overeat. It helps our skin looking healthy. It's good for our overall body functions.

I find that if I haven't drank enough water one day, that I am tired and almost lethargic. Drinking more water helps keep me energized. Although I work from home, I keep a large, refillable bottle by my side at all times. When it's right in front of me, I will remember to drink it!

2. Exercise - for me, this isn't exercise "more", it's exercise period. I've never been one to love exercise, but the older I get the more I realize just how important it is for my body. I've vowed to walk at least 20 minutes each day, and I'll add to that when I can. Luckily we have a treadmill, so I can jump on that first thing in the morning and get my walking in. If I have a busy morning ahead of me, I'll try to do it before dinner. Basically, whenever I can squeeze those 20 minutes in! Again, I'm starting with baby steps here.

3. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables - this has been an easy one for me. I've been buying a lot more fresh produce at the store lately. I come home and cut up bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots and celery and place it in the frig right up front so it's the first thing the kids and I see. Again, seeing it front and center means there is a better chance I'll eat it! I also keep a big bowl of apples, pears and oranges on the counter so it's there when I need a little something sweet. You all know how much I love to bake. Baking is my passion and I have a huge sweet tooth! So I've been trying really hard not to eat as many desserts.
4. Choose smarter snacks - again, the fruit and veggies are great snacks, but I love to have variety. Recently I was shopping at Walmart and came across the goodnessknows® snack squares. Made with real fruits, whole nuts and dark chocolate, they are the perfect afternoon pick me up!

They come in three fabulous flavors - goodnessknows® Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate; goodnessknows® Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate; and goodnessknows® Peach & Cherry. Each one is amazing, but I think the Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate is my favorite! Well, for now anyway. I love to take a quick break in the afternoon and enjoy the goodnessknows® snack squares and just take time to relax. I can go from goodness to greatness pretty quick!
Be sure to enter the goodnessknows® sweepstakes with a photo or quote for a chance to win one of two $500 gift cards up for grabs each week for three weeks beginning January 18th!!

2016 #TryALittleGoodness Sweepstakes 5. Get more sleep - all of  our bodies require sleep in order to restore and rejuvenate. I know many nights I don't get as much as I need, and the next day I can really tell. I'm slow, lethargic, and not my usually peppy self. Since the start of the new year my goal has been to go to bed 30 minutes earlier, and it's really been helping! I wake up more refreshed and ready to start my day.
I know these simple steps aren't rocket science, and I'm sure you've heard them all before, but I just wanted to share my goals with you. Head over to the goodnessknows® social hub for more goodness to greatness stories and tips!
