If you've been around here long enough, you know how much I love football! I'm a die-hard fan of my hometown team, the Michigan State Spartans, and I definitely bleed green. For years my family had season tickets and we attended the games and would tailgate beforehand. Now that my kids are older and so involved in their own sports and school activities, we enjoy watching the games on TV and throwing our own homegating parties!
When hosting a homegating party, the number one thing to remember is plan, plan, plan! Planning ahead is definitely the key to making your party fun and stress free. You want to spend game time with your family and friends enjoying good food and great company, am I right? Of course I am! And when I sit down to plan my party, I always turn to KING’S HAWAIIAN® and Walmart to make it the best it can be.
Here are a few of my top tips when planning your game day celebrations:
- Decide on your menu, including your favorite KING’S HAWAIIAN® recipes
- Head to Walmart a day or two before the celebration to buy your party supplies and game day food
- Prep as much of the food as possible the night before
- The morning of the party, set the table buffet style
- Set up a self-serve drink station for your guests
- Cook as much of the food as possible before your guests arrive
The biggest decision you'll have to make for your game day party is the menu! I love to serve fun and delicious food, but I also want the dishes to be easy and not overly complicated. KING’S HAWAIIAN® Sweet Hot Dog Buns are perfect for hot dogs and brats, but are also great for subs and sandwiches. In fact, I've created a delicious slow cooker recipe that is perfect for my homegate which uses the KING’S HAWAIIAN® Sweet Hot Dog Buns, and I'll be sharing it with you in just a couple of weeks!
I also try to stick to a budget when planning my party, and it's easy to do that when shopping at Walmart. They have the lowest prices around on many of my favorite items, and I love that I can go there for all of my party supplies and my groceries. One-stop shopping is the best!

ReplyDeleteGreat tips! Planning ahead really does make game day so much more fun (and way less stressful). I totally get the excitement—my family loves to gather for games too. By the way, if anyone’s looking for a fun way to pass the time during halftime, you might enjoy checking out Bad Ice Cream—it’s a quirky little game we’ve been playing lately that’s perfect for a quick break. Thanks for sharing your ideas!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a fun way to celebrate game day! I really like how you mentioned planning ahead, it definitely makes things smoother so you can actually enjoy the party. Food is always the star, and KING’S HAWAIIAN® buns are such a good choice for quick, tasty meals everyone can enjoy. I usually keep my homegating simple too, so I can spend more time hanging out with friends and family instead of being stuck in the kitchen. On a different note, when I’m not watching football, I like playing casual games like among us because it’s a great way to relax and laugh with friends. Whether it’s game day food or game night fun, it’s all about sharing good times together.
