Spiced Americano on a cold, wintery day....

So anyone that knows me well knows that I love Giada De Laurentiis. She is my culinary inspiration! I have all of her cookbooks, watch her shows, and follow her life. It's a bit of an obsession I guess...lol.

Today I decided to try her recipe for Spiced Americano with cinnamon whipped cream. Let me tell you it was HEAVENLY! I think I drank 4 cups throughout the day. If you like coffee, then you will love this too. I didn't get a pic but I will share the recipe here:

1/2 cup water
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1 cup brewed espresso
1 cup boiling water
1 cup heavy cream
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar

In a small saucepan, combine water and sugar over medium heat. Bring to a boil and reduce heat to low. Add the allspice, cinnamon and ginger to the simple syrup and simmer for 5 minutes. Take pan off heat and set aside. To the 1 cup of espresso, add 1 cup of boiling water. Pour 1/2 cup of espresso into each of 4 (6 to 8-ounce) serving cups. Add 2 tablespoons of the spice simple syrup to each cup and combine. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer beat the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Add the confectioners' sugar and continue to beat until stiff. Top each cup of espresso with a dollop of whipped cream and dust with cinnamon, if desired.

Enjoy!!

  1. Sarah, this is so cool! I can't wait to read about your cooking adventures. I would like to add that if you realize your dream of being a chef I would love to be your sous chef, I can make sauces like nobody's business!

  2. My husband actually looked up a whole biography on her one day so you're not alone in your obsession. This sounds great!

  3. Thanks Stacey! I really do hope to achieve my dream of becoming a chef someday, but it probably won't be until after my kids are grown. But when that day comes, I'd love to have to as my sous chef! We'd have so much fun!

Susan, I'm glad I'm not the only obsessed one! :) She really is an amazing chef and person. She's on the cover of Redbook this month and there is a wonderful interview with her inside. You should get it for Link! :)
